Figure 4. Simplified photocycle scheme showing both the kinetics of the optical transitions between the pG and pB states and the kinetics of the formation and decay of the Nile Red (NR) fluorescence probing the exposure of a hydrophobic surface in the pB state. The light-induced formation of the pB state is biexponential with respect to both the photocycle and the conformation transitions.
